Just a little about me...
My name is Ashley Joleen Grant, I am 22 years old and I am a birth and labor doula. I guess you could say I stumbled upon this wonderful journey I am on. I was preparing myself to attend college to become a nurse in the fall of 2011, but when I had the opportunity to attend the birth of a close friends' twin girls. From that moment of witnessing those two beautiful girls enter this world, I knew. I knew that I had found my calling, my passion, the path I was meant to be on. So the very next day I began the search for classes and workshops in which to become a doula.
I have been babysitting since I was 14 years old, and I have always loved children. So I believe I truly am meant for this journey. I am currently a nanny for triplets who are 3 1/2 years old. They are so much fun and I love them dearly. Thankfully working with them is flexible so that when I am called to a birth my two careers do not collide or hinder one another.
I believe that my passion for birth and for mothers giving birth is very
powerful. It spurs me on to continually learn more, to remain calm and
patient, and to pour my heart and soul into helping each and every mother I
have the privilege to work with.
I have completed my labor doula training through CAPPA ( Childbirth And Post Partum Association). I was trained by Terri Woods and am so blessed to have her continued support and mentorship. I am still constantly learning new techniques and gaining new knowledge, and I hope I never stop learning. I have attended a total of four births, although that is including the twins' birth where I was not the acting doula. I am always excited to meet and visit with new mamas and support them in any way I can, even if I am not chosen to be their doula. I am currently waiting to receive my certification as a CAPPA certified labor doula. I have completed all the necessary courses and requirements, now the waiting for the reply from CAPPA begins!
I am so honored to be able to serve and support the mamas and families of this community. Every mama should have the opportunity to have the freedom to make her own informed decisions and experience the birth she hopes for.
Thank You for taking the time to read about me, if you are interested in the whole story of my journey feel free to check out my blog tab at the top of the page. I cherish my story and hold it dear to my heart. My journey may have just begun but, there is nothing like a dream to build a future!
