April 2, 2013 dawned like any other day. Of course I knew my client was one week past her due date, but at this point I wasn't sure I was every going to meet this baby! Waiting to meet this bundle was very suspenseful as Mommy and Daddy had chosen not to find out the gender of the baby, and we were very excited to find out!!
I was sitting in the office at Casagrande Woodworks working on the books, when I got a call from Mama that her labor had started. I flew around the office trying to finish up work in case she called back to say she was ready for me to come. Well I finished work, ran errands, went home and twittled my thumbs waiting. Tried to figure out if I should bug mama to check on her or wait for her to call and update me. So I waited. And at 5 pm I was headed to French Hospital to start my day.
Mama was amazing in her determination to stay strong to her commitments. She changed positions, worked with the ball, walked the halls, and used the tub.

When Sis arrived mama's support grew. Sis got Mama to smile and distracted her for a while. Sis was so helpful and supportive. It was a pleasure working along side of her. Daddy was amazing as well. He was so devoted to Mama and determined to find what technique would relieve some pressure, to never leave her side and support her through the entire labor process.
I was at Mama's side for 20 hours before we finally got to meet baby Dylan. Uncle, Auntie, and Grandpa were all there to welcome him and celebrate his birthday. He was a beautiful baby and Mama was so happy to meet him. Daddy could not take his eyes off his son, nor leave his side from the minute he was born.
After baby had breastfed for a while and had time to bond with Mama, the nurse came back to do her checkup with him. Poor little man wailed as soon as he was off Mama's chest. The nurse, Nancy, suggested that Daddy offer his finger for baby to suck on, and it worked!! Baby Dylan settled right down and didn't make a peep as long as he had Daddy's finger to suck on. With his other hand Daddy let Dylan hold onto his finger and Baby Dylan was quiet and content to let Nancy finish her work.
I got the chance to take a few newborn pictures of Dylan and his Mama and Daddy a week after he was born. He made my job easy, so adorable!!
I am so blessed,
